A brief history of Woolgoolg Athletics Club... more to come soon...
The Woolgoolga Athletics Club was started in the 1984 -85 Track & Field season by Robert & Margaret Fraser, both of whom had been involved with Bananacoast A.A.C. We started with Little Athletics adding Seniors in the first full year. Early folks involved on the Committee included Betsy White, Glenn Beizlle’s mum, the O’Briens, Bev McKean and Trevor Freestone (whoose son was a sprinter & probably still holds the WHS record for the 100 metres). Amongst a stellar group of early seniors was Steel Beverage, Bruce Lumb, and the McKean family, three of whom represented NSW. There were many others involved in getting things started, Bob Wright, who ran the Monday X-C, was another early member. On one occasion Bob, his son Tim and Steel Beverage were at the field for a Tuesday X-C in the pouring rain. No bridges in those days!
